Officials disappointed at outcome of tuna conference in Croatia

(20 Nov 2018) There was widespread dismay in Croatia on Thursday as delegates expressed disappointment at the outcome of a special meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). The Commission agreed on a multi-annual management plan for bluefin tuna in the eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean. But it failed to reach a consensus on enhanced protective measuers for overfished bigeye tuna. Grantly Gallant from the Global Tuna Conservation told The Associated Press that "industry did not win this meeting, in fact industry will suffer as the bigeye stock suffers".
