The lecture "Cranial Neural Crest Cells and Their Utility in Jaw Bone Regeneration," by Dr. Yang Chai, was part of the 35th annual USC Periodontal and Implant Symposium (theme: "The Age of Speed") held in Los Angeles in 2010. Dr. Chai is the George and MaryLou Boone Professor of Craniofacial Molecular Biology, associate dean of research and director of the Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC. He completed his dental education, and also his Ph.D. in craniofacial biology, at USC. He previously obtained his dental degree as well as postdoctoral training in oral-maxillofacial surgery at Peking University in Beijing, China. He is actively engaged in NIH-funded research at the USC Center for Craniofacial Molecular Biology, focusing on craniofacial development, malformations and tissue regeneration. Dr. Chai has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, has written book chapters and has received numerous awards, including several Awards of Excellence in Teaching, at USC.
