This is something that interested me right away. When you check out the bookshelves in Saya's schoolhouse you will notice that one of the titles is completely different. In the final translation it reads "A Day with Ecco". But here it reads "Motavians Are Disqualified".

Now the Motavians aren't too fond of the Parmanians in general, although there are exceptions. Some of them don't really mind them at all. But many of them aren't very friendly to you when you arrive in Tonoe. And Zio's attack on Molcum certainly doesn't help to change their opinions. So it appears as if the two races have a shaky relationship and don't interact much. So not a lot has changed in the past 1000 years. You don't see any Motavians at the university despite the fact that they excel in engineering and have high quality metal refining skills.

Anyway, there's an interesting line from Gryz that was left in the game. While I took this one from the prototype, the dialog is more or less the same in the final. When Demi says that the force field at the plate System is to prevent natives from wandering in Gryz says " Hmm, natives..."

While these two lines are not related directly it does set off a certain vibe. I'm wondering why the book in the schoolhouse was changed. Was it because it sounded awkward? Maybe it was the racist connotations involved. The conceptual plot of Phantasy Star 2 involved Motavian genocide. Maybe I'm thinking too much into it. But that is what Zio ended up doing. He killed off almost an entire population in Molcum, forcing the inhabitants of Tonoe to block the entrance to the Valley Maze off with a rock. So in a way they did end up using that concept after all. Now I don't think the Parmanians hate Motavians here. But the book title isn't very nice now is it?

So how did I get to the plate System so early? Well walk through walls and no random battles won't work in the prototype. At least the Game Genie codes I used wouldn't. I will try PAR codes instead later. So I just manually added vehicles so i could cross the quicksand.
