BEAUTIFY YONKERS Mayor Spano will open the new public space of the Daylighted Saw Mill River as part of a multi-phase project which includes a new urban river and parks through the center of downtown Yonkers. The Daylighting project revitalizes portions of the long-buried river, including improving river banks and installing plantings to create open, green public space. Phase III of the project creates a 1.25 acre park in an area of the City known as Chicken Island, the site of a future large scale development project. The City of Yonkers demolished several vacant properties in November 2014 for the purpose of the new open public space.
