All right, tip number seven. This is a little one. Plane sawing versus quarter sawing, so what's up with that? Plane sawing is about economy. So what I'm going to do I'm going to take a piece of wood. If I'm a lumberyard owner, I have this big log. I'm going to cut a bunch of lines straight across all of it. If I'm doing a quarter saw I'm going to take that log and I'm going to saw it into quarters and then I'm going to cut out like that. So what's going on there?
What's going on there is the quarter sawn is way less efficient. Plane sawn is way more efficient. But with the quarter sawn, I'm going to have nice, straight grain lines. Because all those grains are going right through. The rings are going right straight through. 
If I look at it in section, it's going to look like that. It's going to expand and contract in all kinds of incredibly predictable ways. It's going to be very useful, very strong. It's going to wear well. The plane sawn is going to be way more efficient from getting as much wood out of it as possible. But the grains are going to look like little cathedrals. If I look in section, it's going to be a lot of this kind of stuff. It's going to be much harder to understand exactly how it's going to expand and contract.
Look for these kinds of things. This is just one example. Look for those kinds of things. That's something they can ask a question about. It's an easy question and it's easy to understand what it should be.
