Frank Cheng moved to U of I in 1997 as an Assistant Professor, earning tenure in 2002 then promotion to Professor in 2009. While there, he has published research on environmental remediation through in situ chemical oxidations with O2, and improvised explosives detection. Since 2012 he has focused on carbon materials for electrochemistry, energy storage, water purification and sensing.
