United Nations, New York, 9 June 2009 - Noon briefing by the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General. The United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon has today released a report on children and armed conflict in Myanmar. The report details grave violations against children and names the parties responsible for them - including State and non-State parties. In the report, the Secretary General has called on all groups party to the violations to open a dialogue with the United Nations for the purposes of agreeing to and signing an action plan to combat such crimes. The government of Myanmar has been asked to formally adopt an action plan "without further delay" to prevent any new recruitment of children and release those currently associated with armed forces and groups in the country.
