January 12th, 2014 Boulder, CO. What another great day I had at the USA National Championships for Cyclo-cross. The weather was windy but not too cold. The course was for the most part dry except for shaded areas of the course.
The Cyclo-cross Male Collegiate D1 race had a fast course and a large field of 66 racers. Racers from across the nation attended the race hoping to gain the National Championship Title. I saw license plates from as far as Florida and Vermont.
As a spectator I found the course to have lots of folks watching and cheering the racers on but I had no problems getting a good shot.
The race was hard fought by all of the racers but the pack that where just behind the leaders had to fight for the 5th pace finish. As I watched I could see them jockeying for position as the headwind was blowing hard as they went down the finishing straight.
The race winner was Kerry Werner of Lees-McRae College. 2nd was Andrew Dillman of Marian University. 3rd was Kevin Fish of The University of Texas at Austin. 4th was Alexander Marin of the University of Wisconsin-Madison. 5th was Brandon Feehery of Lindenwood University.
Better Bicycling and myself wish to thank all of the teams and sponsors for a great week of racing.
