A solar plant was opened in Chernobyl on Friday, just across from where a power station caused one of the worst nuclear accidents three decades ago. The one-megawatt Solar Chernobyl is a joint Ukrainian-German project, costing around 1.2 million US dollars and capable of powering about 2,000 households. It is the first time the site has produced power since 2000, when the nuclear plant was finally shut down. The new facility is connected to the nuclear plant's former energy systems and is ready to deliver energy to consumers.
