Meike Schleiff grew up in Renick, WV on a sheep farm and a family construction business. Meike founded The GROWProject in 2010 after working with a network of young leaders in Haiti for two years; continues to work in Haiti and West Virginia. She studied at Berea College and holds a Master of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University; she will be starting a Doctor of Public Health program at Hopkins this fall as well. Meike's interests include community-based strategies for development, equity in health, and how rights and responsibilities cannot exist, one without the other.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
