Failure to get a majority vote which would allow CARICOM to proceed with plans to create a single market and economy would have possibly resulted in Jamaica considering its status within CARICOM and following the Bahamas model in accordance with recommendations of the Golding Report. That's the assertion made by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley during a Press Conference at the end of the Two-Day CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting on Tuesday night. The Prime Minister said when one considers that CARICOM has been on this mission since 1989, with the CARICOM Single Market and Economy being removed from the agenda in 2011, five years presented too big a threat. This, he says, is why Trinidad and Tobago took the position of now or never. Prime Minister Rowley thanked his colleagues for cooperating beyond all expectation. He said Trinidad and Tobago is once again happy to be at the forefront of regional integration.
