It can measure by quantifying the downtime losses, reduced speed losses, and poor quality losses. These losses can be measured by equipment availability (A), performance efficiency (E), and rate of quality product produced by the machine (R). The overall equipment effectiveness is the multiple of all three metrics; OEE = A*E*R.
