(6 Nov 2018) China and some international organizations voiced concerns on Tuesday about the increasing downward risks of the global economy and called for the maintenance of multilateralism and free trade principles. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang had a roundtable discussion with heads of six international bodies, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Trade Organization (WTO). A press release circulated by China said all the parties were "strongly concerned about trade protectionism". At a joint briefing in Beijing, Li said the meeting sent out a positive voice to "maintain the multilateral and free trade system and seek the resolutions to the problem in bilateral and multilateral dialogue and negotiation." Managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, said the IMF forecast that China's GDP growth rate would be lowered from 6.6 percent this year to 6.2 percent next year, mainly because of current trade frictions with the US. Tuesday's meeting brought together World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde, WTO head Roberto Azevedo, leader of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Angel Gurria, Financial Stability Board Chairman Mark Carney and International Labor Organization Deputy Director-General Deborah Greenfield.
