Gone too soon: Mother and daughter remembered after fatal crash

ALEXANDRIA, KY (Brad Underwood) - Three nights after 30-year-old Desirae Hensley and her daughter, 8-year-old Jakyra Cundiff, were killed in a head-on crash, hundreds come together in prayer.

A dark field off of Breckenridge Drive was lit up as candles were held until they didn't burn any longer.

Children, adults, family and strangers all stood with each other in support of Hensley's family.

Many in the crowd were also there in support of Hensley's mother, Jenni McBride, who volunteers at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Fort Thomas and is heavily involved with the Main Street Baptist Church in Alexandria.

"It's sad, just sad. but she knows like I know that God's got us," said Jethro Jones.

Josh Alfred and his fiancé Jamey Wright were in the crowd. Alfred says he considered Hensley and her mother family.

"Jenni McBride, She took me in. so Desirae I always considered her a sister," said Alfred. "It's pretty hard, then we were 15, now I'm 30, she was 30, So, when I first heard about it, I got my daughter too, it's pretty hard."

The Driver of the car that hit and killed the car carrying Desirae and Jakyra is cooperating with police. No charges have been filed at this time as police await toxicology reports.

The Visitation will be held Tuesday March 8th from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral services are Wednesday March 9th at 11:00AM at Main Street Baptist Church in Alexandria.
