After the success of 1972's Transformer, Lou released his masterpiece, Berlin, to a completely unreceptive American market, both critically and commercially. So, RCA in 1974 rolled Lou into the studio to cut some half-assed Scuzz Rock that capitalized on his growing status as a degenerate Rock Star - and ended up making this the only Top Ten LP he would ever release. RCA put a relatively large amount of money into the promotional campaign, of which this commercial was part of. You can see how Lou put everything he had into the promotional machine!
