Esperanza Pintor Martinez arrived in Iowa as an immigrant in 1993 not knowing one word of English. Nineteen years later she has earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master's degree in Public Health from the University of Iowa. She is the Clinic Administrator at La Clínica de la Esperanza, having previously worked with the Iowa Center for Immigrant Leadership & Integration and the Center for Social and Behavioral Research at UNI. Esperanza enjoys traveling, learning, and spending time with her family and husband. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
