NEW YORK, NY -- Just before 10:00 PM, Tuesday, April 3, 2018, FDNY responded to a car fire at the corner of West 111st Street and 7th Avenue. The passenger cabin of the vehicle, a late-model Mercedes-Benz coupe, began to fill with smoke as the driver dropper her colleague off at East 111 Street. A passerby who noticed the smoke condition assisted the two women from their car and dialed 911. Firefighters used a variety of tools, including a power carbide saw, to force open the car’s hood. Firefighters flooded the engine compartment with water to extinguish the flames, which appeared to have caused significant damage. The vehicle’s owner, who works on 125 Street and lives in Brooklyn, reported that she had earlier in the day had the oil changed and the “engine flushed.” There were no injuries.
