Film shot in Cincinnati up for highest award at Cannes Film Festival

CINCINNATI, OH. (WKRC) – For the second time in three years a film made in Cincinnati is up for the highest award at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on Monday.

The Killing Of A Sacred Deer is nominated for the Palme D’Or award. The film stars Nicole Kidman and Collin Farrell and takes place inside Christ Hospital in Mt. Auburn.

"The director of the hospital becomes the director of the hospital in the film. The nurses, the doctors they are all in the background. I think Cincinnati will embrace this film because Cincinnati is the star,” said Kristen Schlotman, executive director of Film Cincinnati.

Via video message, Schlotman describes the excitement in Cannes and the moments of filming last fall.

“I remembering walking into the hospital with the film director Yorgos Lanthimos and having him feel so incredibly excited and looking around and saying there’s no other place to make this film, we have to make it here,” said Schlotman.

Just two years ago, the film Carol was nominated for the same award after filming in Cincinnati in 2014.

The Killing Of A Sacred Deer also joins the film Marauders as a movie recently shot and anchored in Cincinnati. The premiere at Cannes is set for Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in Cannes (1:30 p.m. EDT) The film is set to be released in the United States on November 3, 2017.

And yet another film just wrapped up shooting in the Tri-State. The Robert Redford film The Old Man And The Gun was recently picked up by Fox Searchlight and according to Variety will have North American and U-K rights to the film. The movie also stars Danny Glover, Casey Afflect and Sissy Spacek.
