Ladies and Gentlemen, this is The Council. It is an incredible narrative driven game, with an engrossing story and unique RPG elements. This is an episodic game, and we are playing Episode Five: Checkmate.

In Part 1 of our playthrough of Episode 5, Lord Mortimer gives us the task to persuade the guests to vote for his project, involving the Louisiana territory.

In this opening chapter of Episode 5 (Checkmate) we get to attempt a series of confrontations! We must convince George Washington, Emily Hillsborrow, Cardinal Piaggi, Duke Godoy, and Von Wollner to change sides in the upcoming conference.

[Spoilers]

In a massive twist we witness Mortimer committing fratricide, assassinating his brother Gregory with a cup of tea...

Your choices matter in this game, more than any story driven game I have played. You must make decisions that have a dramatic effect on the plot, and the game gives you the opportunity to build a character with unique skills, talents, and traits. I will be playing every episode of this game, I am hooked.

►Checkmate is the fifth and final episode of The Council’s inaugural season. The Complete Season of The Council grants access to all 5 episodes.
►As his assumptions about reality come crashing down around him, Louis de Richet must take the final steps on deciding his path – and the fate of the world. Democracies, monarchies, and the future of nations hang in the balance.
►This finale brings all your decisions, mistakes, and victories to the fore as Louis’ alliances, enemies, and family all come together for a climatic confrontation.
►Who will win, and can the De Richets survive the island in the end?
►Finish the adventure in The Council Episode 5: Checkmate as kings fall, pawns rise, and the choice, as always, is yours.

►The Council is an episodic game like no other. Delivering a fresh new take on the Narrative Adventure, your choices and character growth truly matter.
►The Council begins in 1793, with players taking the role of Louis de Richet after his invitation to a remote private island by the enigmatic Lord Mortimer
►The strange nature of this private reception goes beyond just the prestigious guests – each and every one of the colorful cast seems to have their own hidden agendas.

►In a new twist for the genre, the core of The Council’s gameplay comes from manipulating and maneuvering through character encounters. During confrontations, skills and limited resources can be used to gain the upper hand and achieve the desired outcome.
►Players will be rewarded for their knowledge of each character’s psychological vulnerabilities and immunities, as well as their preparations made during prior exploration and investigation.
►Failing an encounter does not mean ‘game over’, and no action can be taken back. The consequences are permanent.
