In the second half of the 1930s, cultured immigrants from Europe -- including a number of well-known avant-garde artists and filmmakers from Germany -- settled in the United States as refugees from the rising tide of nazism and fascism. Their experiments with light and motion had a great impact on later generations of filmers and artists and led to an international avant-garde film style. The programme included short films by László Mohóly-Nagy, Oskar Fischinger, John and James Whitney and Jordan Belson.

With performances by improvisation musician Oscar Jan Hoogland (playing gramophone records) and the Paper Ensemble (Jochem van Tol and Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti), which will present its latest performance #9, an exploration of the relationship between space, human scale and paper.
