Maria Valencia is a community leader in her home village of Boca de Curai, South Western Colombia. Together with other mothers from the area, Maria took part in Plan workshops where she was trained in leadership skills. She used her newfound knowledge to set up a local canteen which serves food and juices from Monday to Friday to some of the poorest members of the community. The canteen has been operating for two years and is a vital resource for many working mothers who are unable to feed their children while they are at work.
