Debra Pritchard and Shashank Iyer, both from California, talk about their expectations and future plans as two of the 137 new Peace Corps Volunteers in the Philippines. They belong to the 269th batch of volunteers who will work in different communities in Luzon and Visayas in various fields such as health education, information technology, and environmental preservation. The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged University of Michigan students to serve their country in the cause of peace by working in developing countries. For more information, please visit: http://www.peacecorps.gov/.
