Atlas 5 AV-019 Rocket Launches The AEHF-1 Satellite From Cape Canaveral

A United Launch Alliance Atlas 5 rocket successfully launches the Advanced Extremely High Frequency-1 (AEHF-1) satellite for the U.S. Air Force at 7L07 am EDT, August 14, 2010. AEHF-1 lifted off on an Atlas rocket in the 531 configuration with a 5-meter fairing and 3 solid rocket boosters. Launch took place at Comples 41 at Cape Canaveral, AFS in Florida. The AEHF constellation of four satellites will provide 10 times greater capacity and channel data rates six times higher than that of the existing Milstar II communications satellites. AEHF-1 will be joined by the next two AEHF satellites to be launched during the next two years by ULA.
