This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. All musical notes, chords and general combinations trigger infinitely different cerebral reactions. Can classical music, with its complexity and richness, help abate the onset of dementia?

As a McEuen Scholar, Zorbey came to St Andrews to study medicine from Canada, and he graduated last year from his pre-clinical years. He is currently doing an intercalated Master of Research degree, studying the effects of lithium on neurons and how this might impact its use as a treatment for bipolar disorder. Zorbey is also passionate about classical music, and has been playing the piano for fifteen years, earning a diploma in piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music Canada; in St Andrews, he teaches piano part-time and is the rehearsal pianist for the Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
