As you may have noticed, I am recording these parts by stages, rather than time. Therefor some of these may end around 10 minutes and some may last over an hour, depending on how long the game made a stage. We begin right where we last fought Danemon Ban. Now we'll see how most of the game plays. We have mostly linear stages to progress in, with enemies introduced along the way, and goodies to pick up. These can including material items like Grass or healing items like Medicine. There are chest as well. Some are locked puzzle boxes, most of which are easy to solve. Some I couldn't be bothered and just used a guide. If you want to do this legit but don't want to deal with the puzzle boxes, you can break them open and get their contents. But you won't be able to see what you got until you return to the Hideout and have the shop keeper Appraise it. Puzzle boxes could contain anything, from healing items to rare materials to weapons. You'll also notice a few times Soki mentions things along the lines of "someone smaller could do this". This means Soki himself can't do anything here, but a specific party member can come back later and take the path. This is to help encourage you to go backtracking into areas you've already explored whenever you get a new party member. While I discover new weapons, I tend to stick to Soki's default sword, Lamentation, for a while. This is because unlike most early game swords, Soki gets several bonuses to his stats once it's at max level. Lamentation still has a relatively low Attack Point cap however, so you will still end up using a new weapon about halfway or later into the game. Same goes for all the other characters, really. 16:48 - Jubei Yagyu - Time for our third boss, Jubei. She...doesn't have a lot to her. She basically just rushes you and slashes a bunch. She's fast so she can hit you before you hit her, but you have the range advantage so if you start your attack sooner, you should be fine. Magic can also wreck her. 20:10 - After we fight Jubei, she joins us as a party member. Party members have 4 commands. All-out Attack - HP drains slowly, but attack is increased. AI will actively pursue enemies. Follow - No changes. AI follows the player and only attacks nearby enemies. Wait - HP slowly recovers up to 50%, but never attacks. AI stays in place and blocks. Unique Action - This action depends on the character. Jubei's unique action is Distract. She will taunt the enemies by insulting them and slapping her ass, which causes all of them to face her and pursue her, leaving you free to attack them all from behind. Jubei won't attack and will focus entirely on dodging the enemy. We can't do it yet, but later on we can switch between Soki and the partner with L2. This allows you to play as the other party members. You can use this to constantly keep both character's HP up to at least 50%. As an ally, Soki's unique action is Absorb, where he will do nothing but absorb souls and dodge attacks. 36:10 - Test of Valor - These pop up occasionally as we go through stages, and we can find more by backtracking through areas later. These are challenges with specific objectives, and if we complete the objective quickly, without taking much damage, and while getting enough kills/souls we can get a Gold Medal. Gold Medals usually reward weapons or accessories, with Silver and Bronze giving materials or healing items. 46:10 - Genma Launcher - I just came up with the name for this thing. It launchers Genma out of a cannon so...there you go. Anyways, this is the real boss of Stage 3. It's annoying because you can't use Magic to land Critical attacks on it, so if you were relying on that for the past few bosses, you'e in for a rude awakening. I believe I had to scarf down a fair share of healing items to get past this one. You will also notice your AI allies tend to struggle against bosses. More often than not it's more worth it to have them set to Wait until Soki is hurt below 50%, then switch to the other character and set Soki to Wait. The Genma Launcher is also annoying for a number of other reasons. First, it likes to fly away after taking too much damage and it can stay off screen for a while if it wants. Second, it spawns in adds by launching globs of Genma out of its gullet. And third, it's most dangerous attack is a dainty little leg swipe. This is because in between you attacking it and it doing this leg swipe, there is almost no time to block or dodge. You can't block cancel and the leg swipe is so fast, if he starts the attack mid combo, you are almost guaranteed to get hit. So you need to either time a Magic attack to I-frame past it, or stop your combo short whenever you think the boss is about to do the attack. Not much to it other than that. The boss is an annoying kind of difficult, but it's pretty much only uphill from here. Defeating it wins Stage 3 and takes us back to the Hideout.
