Watch live steam engineers prepare and drive steam locomotives and diesels through the woods of Holliston, Massachusetts. 1/8 to 1/16 scale engines and trains on display and available for rides on a 1-mile meandering track 7.25 inches wide, complete with tunnels, bridges, switches, water tanks, and passenger station. The MIT Club of Boston was invited to attend this three-day annual event last weekend. The smell of smoke, hot oil, and steam, the sound of chuga chuga chuga, chuga, and a variety of train whistles. Lots of maintenance work to do, and plenty of steam tables and turntables. Lots of historical and technical talk and humor, August 2010.
