According to Archeologist Jim Sorensen of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission holding a 2,000-year-old artifact gives students a direct connection to the past that they might not get from a text book.
 
Montgomery College History Professor Joe Stumpf agrees: "There's more than a little bit of truth to say that history is written by the winners for the winners."  He says his archaeological background helps him to learn history through the eyes of the common person and by bringing that knowledge back into the classroom, he makes studying history a little more interesting for his students.  

Most of us think an archaeological dig is something that happens in a remote part of the world by scientists looking for ancient civilizations, but did you know that there are archaeologists working to uncover the history of Montgomery County?
