When he was a high school athlete in Florida, Sean Lynch suffered an injury that put playing college sports off his radar. “I ended up becoming an athletic trainer at my high school,” said Lynch. With that in mind, he wanted to pursue a career in physical therapy. “I landed at Florida State University and I really liked the idea of being able to make a living in the fitness arena.” After investing in a franchise that went bad after college, Lynch took a leap of faith and started working for someone who owned a few gyms in Florida. “We get paid twice a month, the other 28 days I figured I’d have to find something that energized and excited me to go to work everyday. So watching people who were deconditioned physically and emotionally, and watching them turn that corner, was something I found I really enjoyed,” he said. This led to Lynch becoming a general manager, and later, a vice president and for L.A. Fitness in Florida for 13 years. But the turning point was on March 17, 2010 when Orangetheory Fitness was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Lynch ran that very first studio.
