Services to mark anniversary of end of WWI start in Belgium

(9 Nov 2018) Memorial services marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I started in eastern Belgium on Friday. Dignitaries and school children paid their respects to the dead soldiers buried in Robermont cemetery in Liege, Belgium. The military cemetery is home to soldiers from France, England, Italy, Serbia and Russia as well as Belgium. The first battle of World War I happened in Belgium when in August of 1914 the Germans invaded and attacked Liege. The abdication of German Kaiser Wilhelm II was announced in Belgium on November 9, 1918. Two days later in Paris the armistice was signed to officially end the Great War.
