Hamilton, Ont. resident Holly Soulier recently won a Troy-Bilt snow thrower for her father Pat in an essay contest hosted by The Weather Network. 

Here's what Holly wrote in her entry:

"Canadian winters are always 'Troy-Bilt Tough.' Its not easy waking up a 6am to step outside to the bitterness and shovel your escape. Whats even more difficult is watching your dad, who was just diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma cancer, outside with a shovel and no immune system. 

My dad has shoveled us and neighbours out for over 26 years now. He even shovels our 88 year old neighbour's dog a walking path in her backyard. With my dad having cancer and feeling 'useless' because of the control the disease has, he makes sure he's out there in the cold feeling useful even when he can't/shouldn't. 

Last year our neighbour gave my dad money to go get a snowblower because we all know, it's just too much for him to shovel now. Snowblower worked so well, he dug the whole block out of the snowbanks we had last year. He had that snowblower for 1 season and it was stolen from the shed in the backyard. Well I cant bear to watch my dad shoveling himself out this year. My dads winter's are tough, but they could be so much better if they were Troy-Bilt Tough. ---
