Chris Hjelm, chief technology officer for Orbitz, talks about why the company is so impressed with the high-performance, low-cost capabilities of Linux. Pleased with their front-end Linux systems, Orbitz looked for other areas where they could leverage those strengths and benefits. The first place they looked was in the application layer.

The low-cost travel and trip planner needed always-available systems, and their x86 platform-based infrastructure migrated from Sun Solaris to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with price-performance-per-instance improvements of more than 75%.

Hear from members of the engineering team about the process and timeline of their migration, and their experience working with Red Hat solutions and services.
