"People always have to eat", or "Invest in something tangible": these and other similar slogans are used to attract investors to put money into commodity-based funds. Agri-funds are part of this trend and now Deutsche Bank has hopped on the farm wagon. Trading in corn, wheat and soybeans has leapt up on the Chicago Board of Trade, the world leading commodity furtures market. It is hard to pin down the numbers, but analysts say big investors and speculators now account for 10 to 20 per cent of trade. The head of the American futures markets supervisory body has spoken of anomalies and a plague that has befallen these markets.
