Friedje vanGils is the Executive Director of Escuela del Sol Montessori and the Harwood Art Center. Friedje's passion for creating supportive and collaborative environments that integrate academics and the arts has driven the transformation of a one-room Montessori preschool into an innovative early childhood and elementary school and Albuquerque's leading arts organization. Over the last 30 years of creating and operating within an educational community rich with a diversity of ages, learning styles, and expertise, Friedje has come to believe that early childhood education and schools that integrate the larger community into the classroom may hold the key to solving some of the world's largest problems.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
