I joined the military two decades ago. One phrase I learned that is etched into my brain is, “No excuses Drill Sergeant.” Anytime I screwed up I was to recite the words, “No excuses, Drill Sergeant.” It’s funny, because when I said it, I usually caught the Drill Sergeant off guard enough to leave me alone. I guess they were used to hearing all sorts of bullshit excuses from privates. Twenty years later, I still recite those words. Only now, I’m saying them to myself. When I catch myself trying to weasel my way out of the work, I recite those invaluable words to myself, then get the job done. NO EXCUSES, DRILL SERGEANT.
