Drivers in Chicago and across the state of Illinois could soon see another tax increase on fueling at the pump. Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s proposal is a 20 to 30 cent increase statewide on the already 19 cent state tax. Add that to the 10.5 percent sales tax and it gets pretty steep. The mayor says every 5 cents of the increase would bankroll $250 million in revenue statewide. $20 million of that would go to Chicago roads, bridges and rail improvements. Brandon Pope spoke with some drivers to gauge their feelings on the issue.
