This black and white, silent film, “Golden Gate City, San Francisco”, dates to about 1937 or 38. Castle Films was a home movie distributor founded in California in 1924 by Eugene W. Castle. This film was one of Castle Film’s series called The World Parade. The film highlights the things to see in and around San Francisco Bay.
The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the one-mile-wide strait connecting San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. At the time of its opening in 1937, it was the longest and tallest suspension bridge in the world (0:34-0:46). View from on top of a suspension tower (0:46-0:49). Mission Dolores or Mission San Francisco de Asis built in 1776 (10:04-10:23). Golden Gate Park is San Francisco’s city park. It was created in 1871. (10:31-12:29). Conservatory of Flowers opened 1879 (11:30-11:38). Buffalo grazing (11:39-11:49). Spreckels Temple of Music (12:24-12:28). The Cliff House, overlooking the ocean, was first built in 1858.  Seal Rocks is a group of rock formation islands, off shore from the Cliff House, where Steller’s sea lions and California sea lions hang out (12:35-12:49).
