La Gomera is the second smallest island of the Canary Islands in Spain. Due to the altitude and the microclimate La Gomera has several different vegetation zones.
A paradise for hikers is the national park Garajonay with its evergreen cloud forests located in the middle of the island. About 50 Barrancos (ravines) are meandering from here to the sea. In the national park you find the largest remaining contiguous laurel forest – Laurisilva. It survived only because the Canary Islands were spared from the Ice Age and is part of the UNESCO world nature inheritance.

La Gomera ist die zweitkleinste Insel der Kanarischen Inseln in Spanien.  Durch die Höhenlage und das Mikroklima hat La Gomera mehrere unterschiedliche Vegetationszonen.
Ein Paradies für Wanderfreunde ist der in der Inselmitte liegende Nationalpark Garajonay mit seinen immergrünen Nebelwäldern. Etwa 50 Barrancos ( Schluchten ) winden sich von hier hinab zum Meer. Hier liegt auch der größte noch zusammenhängende Lorbeerwald – Laurisilva. Er konnte nur überleben, weil die Kanarischen Inseln von der Eiszeit verschont blieben. Er gehört zum UNESCO-Weltnaturerbe.
