WBA World middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs (31-1, 28 KOs) exposed the 32-year-old Peter Quillin (32-1-1, 23 KOs) in blasting him out with a flurry of big power shots to retain his WBA 160lb title in front of a packed house of fans at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. 
Quillin looked like he meant business before the fight started when the two fighters were being given the instructions by referee Harvey Dock. However, within seconds of the fight having started, Jacobs landed a monstrous right hand to the head that took the air out of Quillin, causing him to back up to the ropes to try and cover up. 

Quillin made a huge mistake in trying to fight it out rather than holding onto Jacobs to try and clear his head. Jacobs never stopped throwing punches, as he unloaded with a blizzard of punches while Quillin tried in vain to cover up. Moments later, Jacobs landed a blistering right hand to the head that caused Quillin to stagger around the ring. The referee Harvey Dock then made the decision to step in and stop the fight at 1:25 of the round. Dock could have let the fight continue, but as hurt as Quillin was, I don’t think he would have made it out of the round. There was way too much time left, and Jacobs wasn’t showing any signs of punching himself out. He looked like he could have continued to flurry with big shots for the remainder of the round to get a knockout. Quillin could have gotten badly hurt if Dock didn’t step in and stop it when he did because Quillin was not fighting smart by holding, and he wasn’t going to be able to take too many more of Jacobs’ big shots before hitting the canvas. 

Quillin didn’t look anything like he’d looked in his last two fights against Michael Zerafa and Andy Lee. It could be that Quillin might have been weight drained from having taken of so much weight to make the 160lb weight limit on Friday. Quillin looked drained the week of the fight, but then again so did Jacobs. He rehydrated to 175 and seemed a little confused about what it means to be weight drained.
