My second attempt at taking one of these Faucet Lights apart. More successful this time. Lidmotor used one of these in one of his projects and mentioned how hard it was to get one apart without destroying it so I thought I would have a go and surprise surprise he was right. It does occur to me that if you only want this unit as a generator you could probably drill the LED in the centre carefully and get access to the LED legs, then solder directly to them. The output would already be rectified, but I think there is also a current limiter circuit in there to protect the LED so the output may be limited.

There are plenty of these faucet lights available on eBay and the listing for mine has been changed so just search for faucet light and you will find them.

I opened up a faucet yesterday. As you started sawing on the side, a few mm down from the top, I was so lucky to start sawing from the top (into the resin). And I only sawed the resin which was sticking out, so my saw barely touched the plastic outside. Now I had 4 ridges, and I used a tiny screwdriver (a watch makers one, 3 mm) and started pouring into the cuts which I had made. After a while I got to see the circuitry and some later I could take that out of it. Below the resin I found 2 wires, embedded in silicone which is easy to remove. I did cut a bit off the isolation on the wires as I went to deep with my screwdriver, so a next time I would be even more careful. But the copper was still intact luckily.
