Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe resigns

People have taken to the streets in celebration after Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe announced his resignation.  This comes after the parliament speaker announced the resignation.  Zimbabwe's parliament erupted in cheers after the announcement about their president.  The speaker stopped impeachment proceedings to say they had received a letter from Mugabe.   His resignation is to take immediate effect after 37 years in power.  The president had been the world's oldest head of state at 93.  Mugabe requested that proper procedures should be followed to install new leadership.  The constitution says the current vice-president Phelekzela Mphoko, should take over.  Parliament says moves were under way to ensure a new leader could take over in a day.
