The South Street Seaport Museum district holds the ruins of the historic Fulton Ferry Hotel. Jack Putnam, historian of the museum, narrates the hotel and area's history and the interest writer Joseph Mitchell had in the old hotel. His 1952 story, "Up in the Old Hotel," is based on exploring this hotel, which had been a ruin for decades then, too. See its dilapidated remains.
