J. Peter Rubin, MD, chair of UPMC's Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and director of UPMC Center for Innovation in Restorative Medicine, explains fat grafting techniques being developed in clinical trials at UPMC to reconstruct damaged tissues with a patient's own fat cells.  

These methods have the potential to replace therapies currently being done with implants or more major surgical procedures and would be a much less invasive procedure with faster recovery and likely, better outcomes.
