By then, the contract for assembly was handed off from Baur to the American Sunroof Company (ASC), which set up shop in Heilbronn, Germany, just to build the drop-top Porsches. The additional bracing required to maintain chassis stiffness added 154 pounds to the 944S2 cabriolet, but maximum performance was never the car’s intended mission.
