Each day the average heart beats 100,000 times and pumps about 2,000 gallons of blood. The heart beats while we are busy meeting the responsibilities and pursuing the pleasures that make up our daily lives. As the heart steadily supports our life's endeavors what can we do to ensure it keeps the beat?

Although heart disease is the number one killer of men and women in the United States it is also one of the single most preventable causes of death. Iowa Public Television talks with doctors at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and a dietician at the Iowa Heart Center about lifestyle factors that play a role in heart disease and what you can do to improve your heart health.
