Now I understand, since I do not have any children, I do not have a place to stand in the debate over whether or not a parent should have the right to name their child Johnathan. I'm just asking parents to use a little common sense. If you don't want your kid getting whiplash as s/he grows up, don't give your kid a common popular name. Think of something that won't often be shouted out in a mall by all the other parents who didn't put any thought into their child's name. Please don't name your kid after a fictional character. Please don't name your kid after a relative. And please for the love of God, don't name the kid after yourself. Then he gets to be called junior all his life and nobody wants to be called junior.
