This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The Industrial Revolution gave power to corporations, created a middle class
and lifted millions from poverty and servitude. Unfortunately this fostered a centurieslong
culture of valuing safety and conformity over creativity and fulfillment. A technological
revolution is now shifting power from large, bureaucratic organizations back to the
individual. As with most revolutions, this change is disruptive. Many are vainly holding on to
the past, losing their jobs and facing economic uncertainty. However, change breeds
opportunity and this dramatic shift will give us a chance to change the way we see work,
enjoy life and find purpose.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
