Forgive a father's pride! This is my daughters 7th and 8th grade band. (She is in 8th grade) This is the first time I heard her play drums (Timbales). She told me just awhile ago that the band leader wanted her to play the piccolo, but she declined. She stated that she didn't want to get confused with the flute. Turns out later she was concerned that I would want to buy her a piccolo but she thought we couldn't afford it (as I was unemployed at the time.) Needless to say, I was disappointed. But she expanded her horizons any way by playing percussion. Personally, I think she is quite good. Danielle usually plays the flute, and I hope someday she will learn to like Irish music. Wouldn't it be grand if I could back her up on a jig or a reel? Well, back to this video, every time I have gone to a concert, my daughter is always behind the band leader. This time was no exception as her normal chair is the empty one you can't see when she plays the flute. I thought I would get a good seat and sit in the middle this time. (I usually like to sit near the exit) Well he blocked her any way and they did a very good rendition of "The Little Mermaid" too, but I won't subject you to that... (maybe) Any way, I know this video is quite long, but I went through TWO OSHA inspections this week, then drove home for three hours with enough time to go to the bathroom and grab a cold hotdog before I had to take her to this concert. Then I sat through the 5th grade band, and the 6th grade band berfore this. Humor me! :-) Also, I have come to the realization that a 5th grade band leader has got to be the epitomy of patience. How else could a person listen to people year after year after year murder marches, yet still have the patience to encourage students to do better in music? If you have the chance to talke to a grade or middle school band leader and you appreciate music, take a moment to thank them. My hat is off to them and I give my heart felt thanks for their patience and tutoring. one more thing, this will probably only be up until my daughter sees it (unless she kills me in which event it will never come down)
