The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the much-debated Triple Talaq bill as 237 MPs voted in its favour. The proposed law makes instant Talaq illegal and a three-year jail term will be given to any man who practices it. The bill will now go the Rajya Sabha.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi faces a tough task as Congress leaders from the three states - Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh - have met him to decide who would lead the respective states. Sources said Nath is likely to be the first choice in Madhya Pradesh as he enjoys not only the support of the party MLAs but also of veterans like former chief minister Digvijay Singh, who prefer him to Jyotiraditya Scindia, the campaign committee chairman. In Rajasthan, the entire campaign was led by Pilot and Gehlot, to the extent that it had led to infighting within the party too. The party leadership had remained mum on the question on who will lead the party in the state. In Chhattisgarh, a meeting of the MLAs is likely to take place Wednesday to assess the situation following which a decision will be taken, said a senior Congress leader from the state. 

15 miners in Meghalaya have been feared dead after they got trapped inside an illegal rat-hole mine in the state's East Jaintia Hills. Rescue operations are being held by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) at the accident site to save the trapped men. The NDRF team is waiting for the pumps to reach the site before resuming the rescue operation.
