Day four of our motorbike trip to the D-Day beaches of Normandy. 

Today we first went to Port En Bessin, the famous location where Operation PLUTO came ashore. 
It was the scene of a significant operation to take the port by 47 Commando, attacking a heavily fortified objective. The losses were significant, but the commandos won the day which allowed for the pipeline to be able to Brough ashore at this port. 
This pipeline ran all the way under the ocean to the UK and carried fuel and oil to the allied beach head to allow them to sustain their operations in France.
We saw the main memorial overlooking the port, and had the chance to see much of the town.

We then went back to Pegasus Bridge - one of our favourite spots - as we were yet to go inside the famous Cafe Gondree. When we arrived there were a number of British Forces Veterans there.
We met Nick Archdale, he was being helped out of the cafe by a lady - they first met when she was only 4 years old... Nick was of 7th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment. The day? Well she was the little girl of the family Gondree that ran the cafe... it was the very first building liberated on D-Day and became the regiments ops HQ and medical area... To this day it is adorned with the Pegasus, the emblem of the lads that did the job on the 6th June...
We also met Roy Cadman of 3 Commando. Roy landed on Sword Beach on D-Day with 3 Commando, who had an accelerated objective to relieve the glider force that had captured Pegasus Bridge in the early hours of June 6th. They made it, and were famously piped over the bridge by Bill Millins, a scene which is in the film The Longest Day.

Then we found a wonderful location - just away fro the bridge is a plaque commemorating the location of the first Bailey Bridge constructed by the allies to help get the vehicles and troops off the Beachhead. Remember our previous video? We met the man that helped build it - George AVERY... amazing!!!

The celebrations of the D-Day Landings last for over a month in Normandy and the emotion, gratitude and love shown to the veterans is mind blowing. you simply have to come here to witness this for yourself...

The 2018 Kawasaki Z1000sx in full touring set up was incredible. Two up and full luggage, it performed superbly.
