10/31/2017 Washington. The Senate confirmed Greg Ibach, the former Nebraska Director of Agriculture, to be the next under secretary for marketing and regulatory programs as the USDA. Sarah Mock has more on what farmers can expect from Ibach. Greg Ibach was sworn in monday morning on the floor of the livestock exchange building in Omaha, after 12 years as head of Nebraska's department of agriculture. Lawmakers from the cornhusker state say he’s the best possible fit for the job. “Nobody out works Nebraska, and nobody knows this better than Greg Ibach. He has built his entire career around honesty and hustle. “Greg knows what the future of agriculture will look like, and his nomination should bring comfort to hard working producers and to hungry consumers across the country.” Ibach says that it’s the lessons he’s learned on his family farm that have been most significant. “Our farm has weathered many difficult times because of hard work, persistence, and teamwork. I look forward to bringing those same principles to USDA. The principles of hard work and dedication I learned growing up led me to a love of agriculture and to attend the University of Nebraska. Following graduation in 1984, I spent 6 years working in the farm credit system in Iowa and Nebraska before returning to the farm, where with the help of our family, we started our own farm and raised our children.” Ibach will now oversee three USDA agencies; the animal and plant health inspection service; the agricultural marketing service, and the grain inspection, packers, and stockyards administration. he has been light on details of his vision, but former colleagues say his lifetime of experience in agriculture will make him invaluable to farmers everywhere. “Growing up on his family’s cow-calf operation outside of sumner Nebraska laid a strong foundation for greg to serve his fellow agricultural producers. He understands the unique challenges our farmers and ranchers face because he is completely immersed in this industry. As the Director of Nebraska’s department of agriculture, Greg has worked tirelessly to promote common sense policies that allow producers to do what they do best, feed the world.” In a statement the secretary of agriculture expressed his excitement for having ibach on board- saying “Ibach’s expertise in a wide cross-section of agricultural issues will be invaluable to our customers.” I’m Sarah Mock in Washington for RFDTV News.
